This is a Mesoscale Discussion from early Tuesday evening. They are considering extending a watch into Southern Indiana should big storms in illinois blow up and move in line segments that have bowing tendencies move out of the Land of Lincoln. The air in the western part of the viewing area has not been worked over and so there is plenty of energy available to maintain t’storms should they move in. The t’storms that erupted along the Ohio River that moved to the east used up some of the energy but there may be enough to maintain storms to some degree should they maintain themselves in our area. Here is the MCD report Number 1733. I may or may not be able to get back with anything else but go to the webpage where you can find up to the minute alerts as well as the Live Radar and the Interactive Radar.
MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1733 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 0602 PM CDT TUE JUL 08 2008 AREAS AFFECTED…EAST CENTRAL MO/CENTRAL-SERN IL/CENTRAL-SRN IND CONCERNING…SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 670… VALID 082302Z – 090000Z THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 670 CONTINUES. WW 670 HAS BEEN EXTENDED IN AREA EWD TO THE IL/IND BORDER. IF DEVELOPING LINE/BOW ECHO OVER CENTRAL IL CAN MAINTAIN EWD PROGRESSION AND/OR INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED…THEN A NEW WW MAY BE NEEDED E OF WW 670 INTO PARTS OF CENTRAL/SRN IND. AT 23Z…REGIONAL RADARS INDICATED A LINE OF STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS OVER CENTRAL IL /EXTENDING FROM CHAMPAIGN COUNTY SWWD TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY/. THIS LINE WAS BEGINNING TO BECOME ORIENTED INTO NE-SW LINE AND MORE NORMAL TO THE DEEP WSWLY FLOW FIELD. THIS COMBINED WITH DEVELOPING COLD POOL SHOULD ENHANCE THE DAMAGING WIND THREAT AS THIS LINE PROGRESSES EWD. MODERATE INSTABILITY DOWNSTREAM OF BOW AND BENEATH MODEST WLY FLOW ALOFT SUGGESTS THIS SYSTEM SHOULD AFFECT MUCH OF CENTRAL AND PARTS OF SRN IND THIS EVENING. ADDITIONAL STORMS WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AHEAD OF THE LINE AND EVENTUALLY MERGE WITH THE EWD MOVING BOW. THIS ACTIVITY WILL ALSO POSE A THREAT FOR STRONG WIND GUSTS AND ISOLATED HAIL. ..PETERS.. 07/08/2008
